I generally don't speak on this type of topics, but I feel like I should as this have a potential of a huge backfire to it.
First thing first, I am not against India in any way, I love my country as much as you do and maybe even more. This is just to enable people to better look at the things and make an informed decision. Now, let's get back to the point: -
I know what China did on the border area is
something they should not be proud of; I can equally feel the loss & pain
of those soldier's family. And I know for a fact, that the Army will do
whatever is required to make them repay.
However, I don't think that boycotting all the
Chinese products is the way to go, it's because it is just an impulsive
decision and the one that lacks a lot of logic and is not beneficial from an
economic perspective.
Let's assume for a while that we boycott all
Chinese products and stop importing them totally. Let's see the condition of
Smartphone market after that. Now that we don't import components or products
from China anymore, how will you fulfil the demand that already exists? 'cos if
you don't do this the price of even a simple phone will skyrocket (provided if
you even make them totally from scratch in India).
As far as market statistics go, as of 2020Q1 more than 73% of Indian smartphone market is held by
Chinese brands, and if you take out more than 73% from anything, there's not a
lot left in it. FYI if you are all in for boycotting China then fact of the
matter is that the Indian companies like Micromax & Lava and even
multi-national companies like Samsung, Apple, Microsoft, Google they all get
their components (like Touchscreens, Cameras, Processors, Memory etc.) mostly
from China. If you still go forward with the decision then now, you don't have
Smartphones in your country anymore!!!
All I am saying is boycotting China all together is
not really an option here, unless we have a technology to produce and possibly
export these components in/from our country itself. And the reality is that
India is not even close to have a technology to produce 7nm, 8nm or even 12nm
silicon chip. And the Touchscreen technology, it's a whole other story on its
own. And buying such a technology is also not an option, even if it is, there
will be all that Patent-royalty agreement which will eventually end up
benefiting China (provided if they even agree to sell such technology, which
they definitely will not.)
This is just an example of a single industry, China
currently have deep roots in many industries in India, be it through direct
selling and even FDIs & FIIs, that we (a common man) don't even completely
know of.
The logical way to cut short China from Indian
markets is to have the complete knowledge of the product you are buying beforehand.
If you have options then try to choose a product which fulfils your
requirements and you are sure that it is made indigenously.
Meanwhile until India is busy in making the
required technology focus on the good things like- Even if they are Chinese
Companies, they are paying all the taxes, employing thousands of people and doing
the required CSR activities and eventually helping our country and its people
here.
